In the event of a pet emergency, do you know who you can count on to deliver the most precise and effective care available?

The fact is, no pet owner ever wants to imagine their cherished companion requiring emergency medical care, but accidents happen and sudden, unexpected illnesses and injuries occur. The best thing that you can do is be prepared ahead of time and know who to call should your pet face the need for urgent care.

The team at Palomar Animal Hospital is ready to assist! We are well-equipped and fully prepared to handle even the most critical cases with swiftness and efficiency, whether it’s delivering first aid, treating a severe injury, performing emergency surgery or something else. We’ll get the situation under control and do whatever it takes to improve the chances of a positive outcome.

Some common signs of a pet emergency include, but are not limited to:

• Difficulty breathing
• Vomiting or diarrhea that contains blood or lasts more than 24 hours
• Broken bones
• Lacerations, cuts or puncture wounds
• Traumatic injury (such as a fall or being struck by a vehicle)
• Ingestion of a foreign object or toxic substance
• Swollen or tender abdomen
• Difficulty urinating
• Seizures
• Unconsciousness

Of course, nobody knows your pet better than you. If you feel as though your companion’s condition warrants emergency care, don’t hesitate to give us a call. Phoning ahead is recommended whenever possible, because this allows us to assess the situation and better prepare for your pet’s arrival. Of course, if the situation is too critical to allow time for a phone call, please bring your pet directly to the clinic for immediate attention.

Our critical care services are available any time during our regular office hours, which are 7 days a week. For emergency situations that occur at a time when the clinic is closed, we are able to provide referrals to one of three local emergency facilities.

While we certainly hope you’ll never face the need for emergency veterinary care, it’s good to know who you can turn to should the need suddenly arise. Rest assured that no matter what happens, or when, your pet will always receive the best possible care.
